And the champion of Machine Madness 2010 is…

Well, obviously, the winner is the guy in the above picture: SOUNDWAVE! 56 votes came in for the final round, and Soundwave walked away with 73% of them. Ratchet came surprisingly far in the tournament, but he couldn’t win this one. So, congrats to all you Soundwave fans! I’d congratulate Soundwave himself, but he’s not actually real.

I don’t know if I’ll even be running this blog a year from now, but if I am, I’d like to do this again. I’ll probably be making some significant changes to it, but I thought this was kind of fun, and you guys seemed to enjoy it. So, I guess we’ll do it again. Anyway, enough of that.

RATCHET vs. SOUNDWAVE
Round 06 » Machine Madness Championship

Finally! The results are in, and while both the Autobot and Decepticon finals were very close races, it was Ratchet and Soundwave who were victorious over Grimlock and Starscream. According to the masses (or, at least, the masses who look at this blog) they are the number one Autobot and Decepticon in the universe!

I had Soundwave pegged early on to be one of the top Decepticons, but Ratchet has been a real dark horse in this tournament. While Soundwave is easily one of the best-known and -loved Transformers, after seeing Ratchet take out characters like Optimus Prime, Prowl, Jetfire, and Grimlock, I don’t think it’s wise to count him out just yet.

The poll will be open until the end of Sunday, around midnight Eastern time. The results will be announced on Monday afternoon/evening. Onward! Roll out and stuff!

The hard choices continue. Now, Soundwave is the only non-seeker remaining in the Decepticon bracket. The seekers are pretty cool, but I never realized they were as popular as they seem to be here. Last round, Soundwave received 67% of the votes versus Waspinator, while Thundercracker got 77% against Unicron.

In order to give people more time to vote in the Decepticon polls, I’ve decided to once again take a break until next Monday. On Monday and Tuesday we’ll have the Autobot and Decepticon championship polls, then on Thursday I’ll post the final match-up of the tournament. Cool? Cool.

I’m sorry, but the fact that David Warner might voice him entirely makes up for the lack of Corey. I mean, Corey was essentially doing something like a David Warner impression for Shockwave anyway. I’m all for original voice actors returning, but I think I’m even more excited for Mr. Warner.

…Well, about as excited as I can get for a Bay movie. I still haven’t seen ROTF.

SKYWARP vs. STARSCREAM

The amount of wailing and gnashing of teeth that will occur as a result of this match-up, I can’t even estimate. Heads exploding, cats and dogs living together; MASS HYSTERIA. Skywarp narrowly defeated Astrotrain in the last round, while Starscream also managed to eliminate Shockwave by a somewhat slim margin. (That match-up received more votes than any other poll in this tournament, by the way.)

Also, don’t forget to check out yesterday’s poll, as it hasn’t received very many votes. (Though, frankly, I doubt that’s going to save Kup from his fate.)

UNICRON vs. THUNDERCRACKER

Well, it looked like Blackarachnia was going to advance to round three for a while, but Unicron managed to pull ahead at the last minute. And Thundercracker, yet another member of the thus-far-unstoppable Seekers, eked out a victory with 61% of the vote versus the Insecticons.

This will be the last poll of 2010. Round four will begin on Monday and, unless I’m miscounting, the tournament should end next week. So, have a good New Year’s Eve/Day! Stay safe and don’t be a dick! <3

Last round, Soundwave made short work of Beast Wars’ Megatron, beating him 72%-28%. I’m actually surprised that there are around eight people who prefer BW Megatron to Soundwave. Waspinator also managed to defeat Ratbat by the exact same margin. But now I think it’s time to say goodbye to Waspinator. Yeah. Sorry, buddy.

Oh man. OH MAN. This isn’t a difficult decision for me personally, but OH MAN. Shockwave basically wiped the floor with Cyclonus, pulling in 76% of the votes. Likewise, Starscream also pulled in 76% of the votes in his battle with Inferno. We’ve got ourselves a fight here, folks.

Megatron’s out! Megatron lost! UPSET! UPSET! I mean, I guess it’s an upset, right? Skywarp pulled in 59% of the vote to knock out ol’ Megs in round two. Meanwhile, Astrotrain defeated the Combaticons by a similar margin. So, yeah. Decepticons!

And please note that, from now on, I’ll only be posting one poll per day, since the field has thinned out a little bit and we’re close to the end of the tournament. So, if you only see one poll go up, you haven’t missed anything. Also, in case you can’t tell, I’ve started using Google Image Search for my header images.

Wait. Galvatron lost? To the Insecticons? What? I just don’t get you peoples. *shrug* Oh, well. This is the end of round two! What I’m going to do is roll straight into round three tomorrow and get the Autobot portion of the round done before Christmas. Then, since most people will probably be busy over the holiday, I’ll pick it back up on next Monday, and then take another break for New Year’s. Once we’re in 2011, round four will begin. Make sense?

This is a weird match-up. I’m not sure either of them ought to be in the second round. I mean, Rumble’s more popular than either of them, but he’s gone. There’s got to be a better way to select these match-ups. I mean, this is my first run at this sort of thing, so it’s all experimental, more or less. Hopefully, I can smooth it out before I do something like this again next year, or whatever.

Once again, LOL. I really hate how predictable this tournament is probably going to end up being. I mean, to a large degree, there haven’t been many big surprises. The big-name characters are just too popular to really allow for many upstarts, at least not with only 20-30 people voting on each poll. Maybe with a bigger, more varied audience. Eh. If anyone has any ideas about how to shake things up in the future, let me know.
